|About||LUVRC is a non-profit organization that was created by engineering students at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.|
The Laurentian University Voyageur Racing Club (LUVRC) is a non-profit organization that began in 2013 predominantly by engineering students at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It remains completely managed by students within the university that are studying various branches of engineering and relies on the donations of local and corporate businesses as well as internal fundraising efforts, to help offset the costs of our project. The current goal of LUVRC is to design and build a buggy with the intentions of competing in the SAE Baja competition in Gorman, California from May 19th-22nd, 2016.
SAE International, also known as the Society of Automotive Engineers, is a professional standards association. As a way of encouraging students, they host a series of extreme engineering competitions which take place across the globe in a range of areas, including Supermileage, Aero, Formula, Clean Snowmobile and Baja.
The Baja SAE is a real world design competition in which engineering students from across the globe design, build and perform in off-road vehicles throughout a series of challenges. Teams must be composed of a diverse group of individuals from multiple disciplines in order to achieve the many goals set out by SAE, including the design and analysis of the vehicle, fundraising, sponsorships, and promotions.
This competition encourages students to collaborate on a large design project, giving experience in real world applications as well as functional teamwork and leadership skills. Throughout this competition, students will learn industry design processes and standards while gaining the opportunity to network within their community and their industry.
