This two-year Master's Degree program with K-6 license will give you the experience, knowledge, and skills you need to teach in both dual language/immersion and English medium elementary education settings. Infused throughout the program is DLI-specific content such as biliteracy development and language-focused teaching strategies. This is an initial licensure program.

The DLI-L program is designed for
+ Practicing DLI teachers on a community expert or other waiver, including individuals working in foreign language immersion, two-way immersion, indigenous language immersion, and other bilingual programs
+ Bilingual education assistants or paraprofessionals who have undergraduate degrees
+ Chinese nationals and other international students who are bilingual, have an undergraduate degree, and would like to teach in DLI programs

The DLI-L Program at the University of Minnesota is specifically-designed to respond to an increasing need for qualified teachers for elementary immersion and dual language programs. The Minnesota Advocates for Immersion Network estimates that more than 15,000 students in Minnesota are learning their school subject matter in a non-English language. More and more school districts are seeking teachers with this special set of knowledge and skills.
