To protect public safety through the enforcement of animal control regulations and to improve the quality of life for Marion County residents and their pets through education relating to responsible pet ownership.
Marion County Animal Services operates out of the Animal Center and includes both animal center and animal control functions.
The center serves as a onestop resource for animal services where staff is responsible for the humane housing, care, redemption and adoption of unwanted, abandoned and stray domestic animals and livestock. Nearly 15,000 animals come through the center’s doors each year, brought by citizens who have found strays, by pet owners who no longer want their pets and by
animal control officers who seize the animals. Citizens can also take advantage of low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, rabies vaccines, county licenses and microchips for their pets at the Animal Center as well as through the Neuter Commuter.
A dedicated team of animal control officers enforce county ordinances and respond to nearly 10,000 animal-related calls annually. Officers are on-call for emergencies 24 hours a day and serve unincorporated Marion County as well as the City of Ocala rescuing injured, sick or stray domestic animals. Officers also investigate aggressive attacks as well as animal cruelties that range from one-animal cases to large-scale incidents involving hundreds of animals.
Animal control's normal hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Report domestic animal complaints or concerns to Animal Control at 352-671-8727.For after-hours emergencies, please call 732-9111.
