|About||The Garden Club is a very active and diverse group, with numerous opportunities for activities and events for club members and the public to participate.|
The Marshalltown, Iowa Federated Garden Club was organized in 1906. The club joined the National Federated Garden Club in 1912. Since then, the club has been very active in civic community betterment projects and currently has more than 75 members. Many members have been active for over 30 years in the club with new members being added each month.
The Club is a very active and diverse group, with numerous opportunities for activities and events for club members and the public to participate. Meetings, except January, are held at the Fisher Community Center in Marshalltown the first Monday of the month. Monthly meetings begin with a potluck luncheon at 11:30 a.m., a brief business meeting at 12:30 p.m., and a program to follow at 1:00 p.m..
Programs at our monthly meetings cover a wide variety of topics. Topics include horticulture, floral design, conservation, wildlife, photography of nature, ecology, and exciting happenings in the world of gardening. All meetings are open to the public.
Our numerous community projects include: maintaining the front entrance of the Fisher Center's flowers and foliage, maintaining the Butterfly Garden at Judge Park, making financial contributions and supporting the Grimes Farm Conservation Center, and supporting financially and/or volunteer workers for many community betterment projects. In addition, the club also supports many state and national gardening and conservation projects.
We have numerous events throughout the year. Most recently we had a public garden tour of five flower gardens in Marshalltown. Earlier this Spring the club held its annual fundraiser with our Plant and Bake Sale. Additionally, the club sponsored a bus trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where community and club members toured two excellent greenhouses as well as the NuBo City and Farmer's Daughters Markets.
The club will be conducting our annual Flower Show the weekend of July 30-31 at the Marshalltown Town Center Mall. Exhibits will incl
