Mary Ann Young was admitted to practice law in May 1979. From Day One, she was a litigator: first, fighting for the rights of the poorest among us at legal aid and legal services in Ocala, Florida; and in private practice in Ocala, bringing the first ever federal sex discrimination case in Marion County, Florida. Mary Ann continued her litigation practice in Dallas, Texas, from 1991 until 2001, where she represented business owners in commercial disputes and consumers who were victimized by unscrupulous home improvement contractors and mortgage brokers; and negotiated recording, publishing, and production contracts for hip hop and gospel recording artists and producers, and independent record labels. From 2001 to 2007, Mary Ann's litigation practice stepped up to complex commercial litigation under the tutelage of Kendall Coffey and Bob Wright. At Coffey & Wright, Mary Ann worked on the Southeast Bank bankruptcy litigation, engaged in all phases of $100 million construction litigation, single-handedly represented a national mortgage company in South Florida real property litigation, and defended Fortune 500 companies in a variety of contexts. From 2007 to 2014, Mary Ann handled high conflict probate and family law litigation, enforcement of non-competition agreements, real property disputes, and, from 2011 to 2014, through her Of Counsel relationship with LYDECKER | DIAZ, participated in the prosecution of cases involving negligent officers and directors of insurance companies and banking institutions.
In early 2015, Mary Ann changed her orientation from litigation to mediation and collaborative lawyering. Having participated in a wide variety of legal disputes as a litigator for 35 years, Mary Ann believes that the highest and best use of her skills and experience is to assist the participants in the settlement of both simple and complex court actions as a mediator. As a result of her experience as a family law attorney since 1979 representing children a
