Architecture is never neutral. It either heals or hurts. Our mission is to research, build, & advocate for architecture that promotes justice and dignity.
MASS strives to improve people's lives through architecture. By employing a deeply inclusive and participatory process with the local community, MASS works with local, regional, and national stakeholders to understand the needs and opportunities of a given project, delivering a building solution that prioritizes equity, dignity and beauty for its users and environs. Rather than (oft-seen) architecturally astounding buildings ignorant of place or socially-conscious spaces focused exclusively on function, MASS believes buildings should be elegant in their design but also contextually appropriate and socially responsible in sourcing both the materials and labor that construct it.
MASS Design Group (MASS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with headquarters in Boston, MA and Kigali, Rwanda. The Hudson Valley Design Lab (HVDL), located in Poughkeepsie, NY, is an initiative to be proximate people and issues in the region.
