|About||Our School is one of 33 Steiner Waldorf schools throughout the UK and Ireland. A proven alternative to mainstream education, It is also one of only a very few Steiner Waldorf schools in the country to take pupils from 0 years to 18 years.|
Ethos and Aims
Michael Hall aims to offer an education to children from KG to age 18 that addresses the whole human being, body, soul and spirit at every stage. In working on developing this education as an art, the teachers are inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner and share this work with the Steiner Waldorf school movement
worldwide. Our aspiration was summarised by Marie Steiner in these words “Our highest aim must be to develop young people who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives”. Our holistic approach attaches equal importance to the crafts, the arts and intellectual attainment.
Why Michael Hall?
What qualities will your child need to flourish as an adult in today’s world?
They will need to be articulate, creative, self-reliant, skilled at listening, imaginative and inquisitive. Every lesson at Michael Hall is designed to enhance and develop these qualities in your child.
For over 85 years, we have consistently provided an inspirational, rigorous, nourishing educational environment for children from birth to 18 years.
With a deep understanding of child development, a broad curriculum and creative methodology, we place the changing needs of your child at the centre of our work.
We give equal attention to the physical, emotional, intellectual, cultural and spiritual needs of your child and the curriculum is designed to work in harmony with the different phases of your child's development. Our experience has shown that learning comes easily and joyfully when it is offered when your child is developmentally ready.
The core subjects of the curriculum are taught in thematic blocks (Main Lessons) and all lessons include a balance of artistic, practical and intellectual content. Whole class, mixed ability teaching is the norm.
All students participate in all the Steiner Waldorf curriculum subjects throughout their school life. The purpose of studying a subject is not to make a student into a professional mathematician, historian, or biologist, but to stimulate and nourish the capacities that every adult needs.
Michael Hall students have a reputation for being well-rounded, balanced individuals who are able to cope with the demands of a fast-changing and uncertain world.
Graduates are highly sought-after in further education and in the work place for their confidence, resourcefulness, social responsibility and enthusiasm.
