|About||Ask me how I can help you prepare for college!|
In 2010 the first chapter of Advise TX was formalized. Advise TX is an affiliate of the National College Advising Corps (NCAC). NCAC was started by Dr. Nicole Hurd at the University of Virginia in 2004. To learn more about NCAC, please visit www.advisingcorps.org
Advise TX Advisers take a “whole school” approach to foster a school-wide college-going culture. Using a “best fit” model, Advisers encourage students to attend colleges and universities that best match their needs both academically and socially. Advise TX places exceptional recent college graduates from all fields of study on high school campuses as near-peer College Advisers to lead students to college. Before serving in a high school, Advise TX Advisers participate in six-weeks of intensive training focused on college access, college admissions, financial aid, student services, diversity, community service, and professionalism. Advisers live within their service areas, and often become involved in the communities they serve.
The Advise TX College Advising Corps seeks to increase the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented Texas high school students entering and completing postsecondary education.
