|About||I offer birth doula services tailored to your needs and preferences in the Amsterdam area. My basic package includes an introductory meeting free of charge, two prenatal visits, full labour support, and one postpartum visit.|
My name is Sarah White and I recently moved to Amsterdam and took the opportunity to train as a doula. Originally I am from Scotland but moved away when I was 18 to go to university, and have since lived in several countries including Ireland, Australia, the United States, Guatemala, and for over 10 years in Sweden.
I first became passionate about pregnancy and childbirth when I was living in Stockholm, studying Social Anthropology and considering having children of my own. I spent several years wondering how I could best follow that passion, whether to become a midwife, a doula, a childbirth educator or advocate, a researcher, a doctor.
In the meantime life was filled by other events, relationships, education, travels, as well as earning a living. It is first now on coming to Amsterdam, and entering into a new chapter, that I have taken concrete steps to follow this path as a vocation. I now hope to combine my role as a doula with postgraduate studies in Social Anthropology in a birth-related area of research. Training to be a midwife is still on the cards, inspired certainly by the relative autonomy of midwives within the Dutch healthcare system, and the normality of homebirths and low rates of medical interventions during birth in the Netherlands.
I am hugely grateful for the opportunity to support pregnant people and their families in having the birth that they want, whatever their circumstances. If you are pregnant and interested in having a doula then please do contact me and we can arrange a first meeting.
