Member of Parliament for Naparima, Mr Rodney Charles.
He served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations from 2010 to 2014. He acted as President of the General Assembly, arguably the second highest post in the UN, on many occasions.
Mr. Charles was the Senior Policy Adviser at the College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago from 2009 to 2010. He was Chair of that institution’s English and Communications Department from 2003 to 2009, and a lecturer there between 2000 and 2003.
Mr. Charles also worked as Marketing and Public Relations Consultant to the St Lucia Labour Party and that country’s United Workers Party from 2004 to 2007. He was a communications consultant with United States-based political consultant James Carville from 2000 to 2001 winning the 2000 general elections for the UNC; and Manager, Retail Marketing for National Petroleum between 1998 and 2000.
He holds a master’s degree in journalism, as well as two bachelor’s degrees (first class honours) in journalism and in geography, all from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
Born on 16 March 1949 in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, he is married to Arit Charles and has four children.
