|About||New Jerusalem Baptist Church is a church were ANYBODY can become SOMEBODY!|
On September 16, 1944, a groups of worshippers assembled at the Church God In Christ on East Sixth Street in Freeport, Texas. There, under the direction of the officers of the Southern District Association ( Rev. S.L. Ferris, Moderator and the Rev. J.S. Cook, Secretary), another church was born in the Brazosport Community. At the suggestions of Sis. Octavia Steptoe, the members agreed that the new church should be called The New Jerusalem Baptist Church. The members elected the late Rev. A.H. Beck as it pastor.
The church held its very first service in a n upstairs apartment of the late Dec. Willie Williams, Sr. The church later moved to a larger space downstairs. The membership was small but under the leadership of Pastor beck, the people began to work. in a very short time, building of a new church began. A church building was constructed at 226 East 7th Street by the founding members along with the help of many dedicated friends of New Jerusalem.
During the ensuing years, many changes and additions have occurred----a parsonages, air conditioning and central heating, carpeting, new fellowship hall, musical instruments, two vans, clerical office with computers and a youth library among others in the old church location.
