|About||NYFW is a music based, performance workshop for children aged 4 to 16 running twice a week in Letchworth Garden City at Jackmans Estate Community Centre.|
New Youth Foundation Workshop; created by Angela Elias (Chairman), Michael Elias (Project Coordinator), Simone Murray (Secretary) and Nakeisha Levy (Treasurer); is a voluntary based music workshop put together to give the children of North Herts the opportunity to learn the skills of what it means to be a 'Performing Artist' and covering all aspects of creating the whole performance.
Michael Elias, a former performing artist and currently a music producer/sound engineer, would have his own children and their friends make up funny songs and record them during the school holidays. This developed into a small group of the kids starting to make serious music. Those children became the group New Youth Generation, and started to perform locally.
The idea for New Youth Foundation Workshop (NYFW) came into place when Michael Elias was approached by Claire Morgan (Community grants officer for North Herts District Council) at a local black history event, where New Youth Generation were performing. Claire was so impressed with the children, it was only a matter of months after for NYFW to open their doors for all the local children to enjoy.
All the people involved in running the workshop have a passion for music, but mainly enhancing the children's social development. We believe the children can grow in confidence, self-esteem and learn the essence of being a team member, through music, art and dance.
Michael wrote: " It's great to see the response we've received since the workshop started in June 2013. We had a great time making 'The Chain Song' for FB Chain. The children put some brilliant work into the lyric writing and recording. Our open day was also a big success. The children put on a great performance and it generated some new members.
This workshop is something I've wanted to do for many years now and I couldn't be more pleased with how the children are developing musically."
