|About||Aikido practice at the North Delta Recreation Centre in North Delta, British Columbia. Registered member of the Canadian Aikido Federation and the British Columbia Aikido Federation.|
North Delta Aikikai is our Aikido club at the North Delta Recreation Centre.
Chief Instructor Kim Riddick Sensei has been practicing Aikido for over 30 years. He trained under Yukio Kawahara Shihan and is a student of Hayato Osawa Shihan of Aikido Headquarters Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan.
Classes are mixed, and open to adults (18+) of all fitness levels. All are welcome to watch class.
Students typically wear a white martial arts uniform (without markings) in class. Newcomers may wear workout clothes such as a T-shirt and trackpants or yoga pants, preferably with the knees covered (to avoid mat abrasions).
Description of the program:
Aikido translates to: The Way of Harmony. Practice consists of partnered cooperative training. In pairs, students take turns to perform and receive techniques. Learn to redirect the lines of aggression using circular motions, and execute safe falls and tumbles. There are no competitive tournaments; rather, the emphasis is on the journey of the practice.
Currently, classes are on Monday, 6-7:30pm and Thursday, 7:30-9pm from Monday, October 2 to Thursday, December 14. The fee for the full term (19 classes) is $152. However, students can register anytime and just pay the prorated amount for the rest of the term.
