The Penwith Gallery is home to the Penwith Society of Arts and was founded as a tribute to the artist, Borlase Smart, a person who believed in promoting and encouraging artists and their art.
A list of past members reads like a "Whose Who" of the British Moderns, Hepworth, Nicholson, Heron, Wynter, Berlin, Lanyon, Frost; names that made St Ives a true tour de force in the world of art.
The society was founded in 1949 and continues to this day. Set in the artistic heart of St Ives on Back Road West, the gallery is now getting a well earned make over. The gallery and society's aim is to create a vibrant community hub where artists and the public can feel connected to the history of St Ives whilst playing a part in shaping its future.
Gallery space is available to rent for individual or group exhibitions.
