|About||The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is the not-for-profit professional association dedicated to the Pilates field.|
|Mission||Our mission is to advance Pilates as a profession and to promote and perpetuate the teachings of Joseph H. and Clara Pilates.|
All established professions have professional associations; the larger the industry, the larger the association. Large professional associations influence legislation affecting the industry, expand the membership to encompass local chapters, finance research and development, direct industry focus, assist in the development of professional and educational standards, and protect the industry from dissolution into other fields. The reason to join is to support the goals of the association, which are designed to support professionals in their field.
Professional certification, (or in some fields, licensure), administered by an independent third party, is a cornerstone in any established profession. The PMA has created the only psychometrically validated, third party professional certification exam in the Pilates field. The PMA aims to create a critical mass of professionally certified Pilates teachers in order to establish the teaching of Pilates as a profession. We urge you to join this movement to elevate the status of Pilates teachers, by becoming a PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher.
The PMA requires all PMA-CPTs to earn 16 CECs every 2 years to maintain their PMA certified status.
- All 16 CECs may be earned by taking approved workshops
Approved coursework is determined to be either Pilates content or 'Complementary content’
- Up to 12 CECs may be earned through approved Distance Learning (Online, DVD, Audio or Home Study) workshops
- 3 CECs may be earned by taking a Live CPR course or renewing a CPR course
- 6 CECs for Peer reviewed or published research
- 1 CEC for Poster Presentation at Conference
(Poster presentations are reports accepted at a conference, specific to Pilates or of an allied field, that represents a Pilates related topic such as therapeutic interventions, movement, biomechanics, anatomy, etc, in which information is summarized using brief written statements and graphic materials, such as photograph
