According to Healthline.com, plants enhance cognitive function. Plants improve concentration, heighten attention and improve memory. Research suggests that plants reduce stress, increase productivity and add subconscious visual stimulation. Professor Alex Haslam of the University of Queensland’s School of Psychology advocates that indoor plants in office environments can boost productivity by 15 percent. Research shows that indoor plants have physical benefits as well. Plants decrease air pollutants and dust while increasing oxygen and humidity. The University of Agriculture in Norway found that indoor plants can reduce cold symptoms by more than 30 percent. The benefits to increased indoor plant life are numerous.
Gonzaga’s mission statement says that it is an “exemplary learning community that educates students." Classroom plant life will enhance our learning community even further. Happier, healthier, and less-stressed students will always provide “leadership and service for the common good," and thus further fulfill Gonzaga’s mission statement.
