|About||PrepNOW! - Changing the story for kids in Foster Care.|
|Mission||Fedcap’s PrepNOW! program, created in 2012, is committed to changing the story for children in foster care. This innovative, highly-successful professional development course is set to assist foster parents in creating a college-going culture in their homes.|
PrepNOW! is a nationally-recognized professional development program for Foster Parents that provides caregivers the motivation, information, and tools needed to help young people in care develop the habits to be successful in school. The program is designed to create an aspirational environment that says to every child, “you have the skills and ability to graduate from high school, go to college and succeed.”
Through PrepNOW!, we have created a learning community of foster parents committed to the academic success of the children in their care. Our program is split into six modules; Introduction, Values, Motivation, Resilience, Knowledge & Skills, and College Persistence, presented in small groups and one-on-one settings utilizing an interactive web-based learning tool.
The PrepNOW! program was independently evaluated by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to conduct a process evaluation of the PrepNOW! pilot program in New York City from October 2015 to October 2016. 85% of foster parents believed that PrepNOW! helped support their foster child’s educational success. And after completing the program, 69% of foster parents discussed college opportunities with the foster youth in their homes.
