Founded in 1937 on just a few bookshelves in Harry White drugstore, Puxico Public Library is the only log cabin library in the state of Missouri. The logs are cypress from the nearby Mingo National Wildlife Refuge area. Originally funded by the Works Progress Association during WWII, which commissioned the building currently in use.
After WWII, the library continued to grow and change over many years of volunteers, funding, donations and the like and is currently being expanded thanks to donations from the Harty family.
