|Mission||The Queens College Open Table is a student run space providing healthy food and other basic needs to our neighbors. We aim to be a reliable source for our community through the belief that food is a right, not a privilege. As a bridge between resources and our neighbors, we do not restrict anyone from their share. Two million New Yorkers are living in poverty, while Americans discard 40% of food intended for consumption. We are friends, neighbors, and students, but most importantly, we are all people. We have the right to live and eat, and the duty to share.|
Beginning in April 15, Queens College Open Table will be sharing fresh food from local supermarkets. Nutritious food is picked up from locations throughout Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan on Sundays between 10:30 and 1pm, then brought to Queens College for sharing at 2 pm until approximately 5 pm (including clean up).
This food is 100% safe for consumption but due to over purchasing, can no longer be shelved, allowing us to feed Queens and prevent waste.
Volunteers are welcome to bring anything necessary items to share:
Toiletries, toys, and clothes are items we may have in our home collecting dust. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Leave something and perhaps find something to take for yourself.
We operate on a word of mouth basis. While we don’t believe in turning people away, we hope participants share with those truly in need.
There is plenty available so long as there are steady participants to stick with us every Sunday.
We always need volunteers, especially drivers!
