The Mission of Rice County is to proactively address the needs of the public we serve in an efficient and effective manner to enhance the quality of life for the citizens.
The Rice County Comprehensive Plan is a document developed by Rice County Environmental Services under the direction of the Steering Committee (made up of the Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission members) after extensive community input. It contains the long term goals, objectives, and recommendations relating to land use and development decisions that will guide county decision makers over the next 20 years. At all stages of the 2040 Update process, from gathering public information to developing a draft plan to seeking public feedback and input before it is presented to the County Board for final approval, community members are invited and encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns on the future growth and development of Rice County.
Rice County was founded in 1853; the county’s current Comprehensive Plan Update process began in July 2015.
