The RFL will provide the diverse community it serves with access to ideas, information, and a variety of educational, cultural, recreational, and intellectual resources. The Library will do so in an inviting, accessible, and eco-conscious manner.
Begun in the 1870s as a subscription library, the Riverhead Free Library was chartered in 1896 by New York State.
The Library is chartered to serve the 32,000+ residents of the Riverhead Central School District, comprised of Riverhead, Aquebogue, Jamesport, South Jamesport, Northville, Baiting Hollow, Calverton, Flanders and parts of Wading River and Hampton Bays. In addition, the Library contracts with residents of East Quogue, Eastport/South Manor, Remsenburg/Speonk and East Moriches.
