|About||The Roxbury Cultural District brings together over 40 partners in a community-driven collaboration to strengthen the connections between art, culture, local businesses, and economic development in Roxbury.|
|Mission||To identify and recognize Roxbury's cultural assets and establish the tools, strategies, resources, and spaces that elevate the community of Roxbury as a living repository of arts and cultural expression--past, present, and future.|
The Roxbury Cultural District is located in the City of Boston and is centered around Dudley Square and John Eliot Square on the northern edge of Roxbury. Roxbury is the geographic center and the heart of Boston; the district—its people, architecture, businesses, and cultural programming—reflect Roxbury’s unique multifaceted cultural heritage and Roxbury’s importance in the past, present, and future of the City of Boston.
To help guide the RCD toward making incremental progress in realizing this vision, the community has identified the following mission statement: To identify and recognize Roxbury's cultural assets and establish the tools, strategies, resources, and spaces that elevate the community of Roxbury as a living repository of arts and cultural expression--past, present, and future.
By establishing a district, the community is developing the backbone organizational structure needed for a sustained, collaborative focus on activating and marketing the neighborhood's arts and cultural assets in order to build physical and social connectivity between people and place, strengthen collective impact, and expand the potential economic opportunities (for residents, artists, business owners, entrepreneurs) that are aligned with a more vibrant cultural district.
