Mission To enrich the collegiate experience, the Paul Robeson Campus Center Office of Student Life is committed to providing quality, student-centered programs, services, and co-curricular involvement opportunities which enhance the growth and development of students. By educating students to become effective leaders, involved citizens, and critical thinkers we can create an inclusive campus community that promotes social awareness, cultivates a respect for diversity and fosters community development.
Description FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE builds upon the foundation set at New Student Orientation to further integrate students into the Rutgers-Newark community. Throughout the year, first year students are invited to participate in a series of specialized programs that are a continuation of the orientation experience. These programs are designed in a manner to allow students to explore interpersonal communication, develop and enhance leadership skills, establish personal identity, learn about and appreciate cultural differences and build connections with the community in which Rutgers is housed. Additionally, students are invited to participate in interactive workshops that center on discussions about ethical development and the first year transition.

Fall Semester Programs Include:

• First Year Student Week
• Top Chef
• First Year Student Idol

Spring Semester Programs Include:

• Dancing with the Staff
• Amazing Race

Applications are available in the Office of Student Life.

FIRST YEAR LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

The First Year Leadership Council is a unique opportunity for first year students to get involved on campus. Members of the council attend workshops designed to build a strong foundation of leadership skills to assist in the transition from high school through college and beyond, while forming strong bonds with their peers. In addition to participating in workshops, FYLC members plan and implement year round programming for the first year student population. Students interested in participating in the First Year Leadership Council can pick up an application from the Office of Student Life.
