A contemporary art gallery located at the foot of the Gunks in New Paltz, NY featuring original works and products by the Artist Ryan Cronin.
“What interests me is using color to steer the eye across the plane. I present the subject, but the meaning is not dictated, that is left to the viewer.” - Ryan Cronin.
Cronin's work is immediately compelling, visually stimulating and thought provoking. He masks deep commitment and seriousness of intent behind a "primitive" facade. He knows exactly what he is doing and he does it very well. Highly recommended
Ryan Cronin was born on June 21,1972 on the front seat of a late 60’s Plymouth Station wagon. It was a fitting beginning for this bold artist.
Growing up in the 1980’s in Northern Westchester, NY, Cronin was surrounded by and embraced Pop Culture. The bright colors and sounds of punk rock, skateboarding, MTV, and the youthful, push-it-to-the-limit attitude of the time, became an integral part of who he is today. Throughout his adolescence, Cronin was a risk taker, often pushing the envelope. Sports and art were the two anchors that kept him in line. On his sixteenth birthday, his parents handed him a Minolta x700 and he began documenting the world around him. These years, instilled a deep sense of framing and placement that is a fundamental part of his work today.
Cronin’s college career began at SUNY Purchase in photography, but he transferred
to SVA after a semester. A childhood pal attending nearby Cooper Union urged him to venture out of his filmic comfort zone and pick up a paintbrush. Cronin heeded him. When his first year at SVA, ended, Cronin decided to take a break from higher education to nurture the free spirit inside and in the summer of 1991, he moved to Boulder, CO. By the spring of 1991, Cronin had returned East and enrolled at SUNY New Paltz where he switched from a Photo major to a Fine Arts painting major. In 1998 he graduated with his BFA. The following year, Cronin married his college sweetheart, Melanie. To this day, she doubles as both spouse and business partner.
Cronin has shown his work in galleries and museums throughout the co
