Welcome to our face book page.
Here at Ryecroft farm, in the semi-rural area of Ashton-in-makerfield, my husband and I are embarking on a new chapter in the farm’s history by establishing a haven of rare breed livestock. We are passionate about the continuity of the breeds we have chosen, and believe each have their own individual qualities that make them worth saving for future generations.
We bought our first two lambs in 2015 so , of course, our flocks are very young and therefore small in number at the moment. However we are hoping to expand them naturally with time whilst maintaining sustainability. With this sustainability in mind, we are aiming to produce both an excellent standard of pedigree stock and quality meat. We believe that, as such, we will be helping to protect as many bloodlines for the future as possible.
At present we have coloured ryelands (classed as category 6 on the rarebreed watch list) and greyface Dartmoor sheep (classed as cat 5 minority breed on the watchlist), and in the not too distant future, hope to venture into Gloucester old spot pigs and Sebastopol geese.
This facebook page is all about the journey we are embarking upon and we hope you enjoy it along with us.
