We encourage you to think of your advisor as your first stop whenever you have questions or concerns. Your advisor can help you:
•Identify your strengths
•Challenge you to try new and unfamiliar media
•Work through personal concerns
•Answer questions about policies and procedures
With guidance from your advisor and faculty, you will be able to create your own educational path, tailoring your experiences in the classroom and the studio. The Advisor works closely with faculty to provide a supportive and enriching environment for the student. Academic Advising is "where you go when you need to know!"
First-year students are placed with a full-time academic advisor who is connected to their Research Studio I course and integrated into the classroom experience. First-year students are required to meet with their Academic Advisor before registering for classes each term for their first two years at SAIC. All transfer students are assigned a faculty-advisor that they must meet with during their first two semesters at SAIC.
--Advising for Everyone--
Even beyond your required meetings, connecting with an Academic Advisor at least once a semester throughout your career at SAIC is essential for all students and will help you get the most out of your academic and cocurricular activities. (Students are reminded that it remains their responsibility to know of and to meet all academic requirements.)
Should you have any questions regarding the services offered please do not hesitate to contact Academic Advising and Student Success office at 312.629.6800.
Academic Advising is here to provide you with support, momentum, and informed guidance as you think, make, and explore inside and outside of the classroom. Academic Advising at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is an ongoing process, not just a routine approval of classes, so you should make an appointment to see your academic advisor soon!
