|Mission||Aiming to cultivate highly skilled and experienced performing artists for prestigious orchestras around the world, SOA is a post-graduate program that enables students to obtain an MFA degree after two years' study.|
Shanghai Orchestra Academy (SOA) is established through the intercontinental cooperation of the New York Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and Shanghai Conservatory of Music, with the aim of training emerging musicians to become eminent performing artists in orchestras around the world. The new Academy will give impetus to the long-term development of China’s, and even Asia’s, support for symphony orchestras, and will be a vibrant stimulus to Sino-U.S. artistic and cultural education, an energetic upgrade of the cultivation of international performing talents, and a brand-new platform for traditional musical education.
The faculty of SOA includes many of the world’s top-notch performing musicians, such as principals of the New York Philharmonic. Classes and lessons will be led by New York Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Conservatory of Music professionals, and will be a central part of this comprehensive orchestral training program. Students will have an exclusive opportunity to serve apprenticeships in the world-renowned New York Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, creating unparalleled performance and ensemble experience that will enrich their musical experience, sharpen their performance skills, and provide a head start in their careers.
Aiming to cultivate highly skilled and experienced performing artists for orchestras, Shanghai Orchestra Academy engages its students with courses taught in the campus of Shanghai Conservatory of Music as well as Shanghai Symphony Concert Hall, which also serves as a base venue for practical training.
