The fourth oldest township in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Silver Spring Township was originally settled by the Scots-Irish. Hogestown and New Kingstown were established within the township as villages, and these still exist today.
Silver Spring Township has the motto of Suburban Serenity with Urban Proximity due to its close location to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania as well as the few hours travel to go to places such as New York City, New York; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, Maryland; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
