Description Recognizing a need for specialized training pertaining to the hazards and difficulties of high and low angel rescue circumstances prompted the Magic Valley Paramedic Team to develop a specialized “Reach & Treat” team.

Since 1996 the Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT) has continued to train and educate around the dynamic field of technical rescue maintaining an aggressive approach to high and low angle rescues along with pre-hospital patient care.

Under the umbrella of The Magic Valley Paramedics, The SORT team responds to low and high-angle rescues in Twin Falls, Jerome and the surrounding Counties of the Magic Valley, and all of Southern Idaho when requested.

The team was formed in 1996 highly trained paramedics, thus the ability to provide life saving procedures on the scene. This team is able to quickly and safely reach victims, provide emergency medical care, and pain control but also stabilization that is not available with the normal search and rescue teams.

In addition to their medical training, each member of the team is trained and certified in technical rescue. Each member is certified at or above the Advanced Technician Level and operates within NFPA Standards 1006 and 1670. This training is comprised of over 60 hours of initial Rope Rescue Training followed by multiple specialty course, and annual training requirements for proficiency maintenance. Each member of the team trains monthly, and a minimum of 48 hours annually.

The SORT team trains and works in cooperation with Twin Falls and Jerome County Search and Rescue, and all surrounding Fire Departments and county agencies responsible for their particular jurisdictions.

This team arrives at the scene equipped with all Our goal is not just immediate rescue, but to provide advanced life support care, evacuation with quick patient transfer to a higher level of care.
