Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) is a group started by people affected by SCA and relatives of people affected by SCA. Spinocerebellar Ataxia is neurological disorder chacterised by slow progressive loss of coordination, gait and muscle movements. There are many subtypes of SCA and the symptoms of the condition vary according to the specific type. A person with the condition will usually end up in a wheelchair and eventually require assistance with activites of everyday life. Most SCAs are hereditary while others can be sporadic where there is no prior family history of the condition.
There is no known cure or treatment for SCA. This group is aimed at supporting those with SCA and working towards a treatment or cure for this debilitating condition.
