St. Cousair is an award-winning Japanese winery located in Iizuna-machi, in the Northern part of Nagano Prefecture. The Winery includes vineyards, two restaurants, a chapel, a shop with a tasting counter, and a jam and sauce production facility.
St. Cousair's roots trace back to the 1970s, when founder Ryozo Kuze and his wife Mayumi operated a ski lodge in Madarao Kogen, near the present-day Iizuna-machi. Though the ski lodge was moderately successful, operating it was exhausting, and Ryozo and Mayumi soon decided to pursue a different path.
During the years operating the lodge, Mayumi often made homemade apple jam as a gift to their guests. Her apple jam recipe prompted the construction of a jam factory and eventually the current winery, restaurants, chapel and shop.
Today, St. Cousair operates over 100 shops throughout Japan, and is currently expanding its production of fine food and beverages worldwide. The Winery produces 250,000 bottles of wine and hard apple cider per year, and today is a popular destination for tour groups, families and individuals interested in winery tourism, fine cuisine, breathtaking mountain views, and the relaxed lifestyle that we often refer to as, "Country Comfort."
