Description |
We are leading an effort to establish a state license plate honoring electric line workers, the people who keep your lights on! To make the plate available to the general public, at least 450 plate-holders in Virginia must commit to buying it. The design, shown as the cover photo, features a line worker climbing a pole against a backdrop of rugged mountains and pines. At the bottom of the plate is the slogan, “Keeping the Lights On.” The plate is officially titled “Honoring Powerline Workers.” Before the license plate can be produced, there need to be 450 pre-paid applications ($25 for the plate, $35 for the plate, personalized) and approval by the state government. Once the 450-plate threshold is reached Del. Terry Austin will sponsor legislation to authorize the license plate in the Virginia General Assembly’s next session. In addition to honoring electric line workers, this project will generate funds for scholarships to students from 15 member electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. These scholarships are awarded to those who attend college or trade school, including the Power Line Worker Training School, in partnership with Southside Community College. Over $500,000 in scholarships have already been awarded to Virginia youth through this program. For additional information, please go to www.linemanlicenseplate.com |
