|About||We are the Tacoma branch of Seattle’s Blue Heron Zen Community, an independent Zen community in the lineage of Zen Master Seung Sahn. We invite you to experience the practice of Zen meditation in a supportive, warm-hearted environment.|
We meet Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Seu Mi Sah Temple. Our regular practice includes bowing, chanting, 20 to 25 minutes of seated meditation, 5 to 10 minutes of walking meditation and another 20 to 25 minutes of seated meditation followed by a short dharma talk or discussion. There is no fee for attending practice, but donations are welcome.
If it's your first night, please arrive by 6:45 p.m. Also, the temple can be chilly in cool weather, so please dress warmly.
On the first Wednesday of each month, we devote extra time to chanting and spend less time in seated meditation. On the third Wednesday of each month, one of our senior dharma teachers grants kong-an and consulting interviews and practice is followed by tea and cookies, giving us an opportunity for conversation and fellowship.
In addition, we offer:
• Chi-kung practice at 6 p.m. each week before practice. Chi-kung is a series of cleansing and tonifying exercises that balance the energy in the body and the mind.
• Book club meetings once a month.
• Day-long retreats once a quarter.
Our Seattle center also offers longer retreats, public talks, ceremonies and residential training.
