|About||The Tacoma Youth Marine Center is a place for local youth to access the Puget Sound and the waters beyond. We also host the SEA SCOUT Base in Tacoma.|
|Mission||A Place for Youth to Touch the Sound|
TACOMA YOUTH MARINE CENTER: provides the facilities, vessels and equipment to develop the potential in youth. With our program partners we introduce boys and girls to the joy of safe boat handling and young men and women to the potential for rewarding maritime careers. Our programs place an emphasis on service to the community, personal responsibility, integrity, discipline, leadership and teamwork; all in a fun, exciting and dynamic environment.
This effort is done in partnership with the Port of Tacoma, School Districts, Metro Parks and other local organizations, businesses, volunteers and donors.
SEA SCOUTS: The Tacoma Youth Marine Center is also the home base for the Sea Scouts in Tacoma. Sea Scouts
in Tacoma have been operating since 1924. The Sea Scout programs are designed for participation by young
men and women ages 14 to 21. Young people become the leadership team and the crews for the Sea Scout
vessels. The primary Sea Scout vessels include the 78 foot motor vessel and former coast guard cutter
Charles N. Curtis, also Tacoma's tall ship - the 90 foot sailing vessel Odyssey and the 38 foot sailing and
rowing gig Vérité. Sea Scout programs provide year-round activities. Sea Scout operations and cruises range from the South Sound to the northern perimeters of the Straights of Georgia in British Columbia. Program costs are very reasonable and some scholarships are available for active members. Adult volunteers are welcome
