TECH Freire (pronounced “free-AIR-ee”) offers the rigorous liberal arts education of the original Freire Charter School, with the addition of education in computer programming and entrepreneurship. The mission of all Freire schools is to provide a college-preparatory learning experience with a focus on real-world learning, critical thinking, and problem solving in an environment that emphasizes the values of community, teamwork, and nonviolence. At TECH Freire, computer science and entrepreneurship programming does not only teach students valuable skills they will need to thrive in the fast-paced and rewarding workplace of the future. Integrated into Freire’s strong liberal arts curriculum, computer programming and entrepreneurship become powerful tools in the hands of students and teachers as they work together to build their futures.
Freire Charter School has a demonstrated track record of producing high academic results among low-income, urban student populations. We are successful in getting students into college (96% of the Class of 2015 enrolled in college, with an average scholarship per student of $40,571). Consistently, 85% of our graduates return to college for their second year—a norm-defying college persistence rate that is a testament to students being well-prepared at Freire. Building on 17 years of success at Freire Charter School, TECH Freire Charter School will serves 9th-12th grade students with a specialized college prep program, and currently serves students in grades 9-11.
