|Mission||At Arc of Washington-Holmes Counties, Inc. our mission is to “promote opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in the same integrated and interdependent experience and life events as do other citizens of Florida, through individually focused level of supports provided in a manner that recognizes the individual’s dignity and worth, while enhancing self-determination and community inclusion.”|
The Arc of Washington-Holmes Counties, in addition to providing services and training, serves in the position of advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families; distributor of information for referral services and resources available for individuals with developmental disabilities. We remain informed of new services and programs, and aid in the education of policy makers, individuals with developmental disabilities, service providers, families and others concerning best practices and issues that impact those we serve and their families.
At The Arc of Washington-Holmes Counties individuals are an integrated part of the community, and active in civic groups and volunteer programs. We teach individuals the importance of giving back to the community. Individuals are given the opportunity to improve their awareness of consumerism and services available to them in their community. Individuals are also engaged in socialization and daily living skills, and employability activities to develop workforce readiness skills.
Services Arc WH provides:
Adult Day Training Programs offers job training during the day and encourages individuals to participate in activities that are meaningful; stresses daily living, self-advocacy, and adaptive and social skills. Programs include work opportunities for wages, learning and recreational activities in a supervised environment. Currently there are 66 individuals being served in this program.
ADT Services Provided:
Mobile Crews support involvement and interaction with the community through job tasks settings in litter pick-up on primary roads and interstate highways. Currently there are 7 individuals being served in this program.
Packing and Shipping provides work training the packaging and shipping environment. Individuals have an opportunity to learn the processes involved in packing and shipping while earning wages and interacting with company representatives, trucking personnel and other employees. Currently there are 45 individuals participating in this program.
The Boomers Department offers regular, age-appropriate opportunities for adults. Participants in this program engage in socialization and activities that embrace the normal aging process. This program provides socialization and activities combined with daily living skills and personal care training to persons that require a greater level of care, in an effort to increase their level of self-sufficiency. Currently there are 18 individuals being served in this program.
Community Exploration offers opportunities for individuals to experience valued adult roles in the community as an alternative to employment or traditional day programs. The program increases awareness of consumerism, and services available to individuals in their community. This program also stresses “giving back to the community” through individuals participating in such programs as community food banks and delivering “Meals on Wheels”. Currently there are 29 individuals participating in this program.
