What is the Free Store?
The Free Store is a centralized location that allows the uOttawa community (Staff and students) to drop off stuff they don’t want anymore and pick-up things they do want for FREE. Essentially, this is a “store” where everything is free.
Our goal is to create a campus where waste is a thing of the past. By creating a space where students, staff and alumni can drop off and pick up stuff, we hope to reduce consumption by offering free items to the campus. We also want to make sure that items have a second chance to be used before they go to the landfill or off for recycling.
What kind of Stuff are we talking about?
Stuff, things we no longer use, dust-collectors, knick-knacks, etc. It doesn’t matter what you call them, we all have things we do not use but could be used by someone else. Some common items are clothing, office supplies, kitchen ware, electronics, textbooks, etc.
Everything that is not taken is donated to Ottawa-based charities. There are many people in need of these items on and off campus, so we try to give back to others as much as we can.
The Free Store is located at 647 King Edward. When the Free Store isn’t open you can drop off donations in our "donations box" located just beside the front door of the house.
If you have questions about the program or you want to donate special items, please contact Brigitte Morin (email@example.com ) our Waste Diversion Coordinator for more details.
