|About||The Lavinia Project is a community literacy project comprised of and operated for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.|
|Mission||To provide a forum in which the experiences of survivors of domestic and sexual violence can be humanized and legitimized so as to tilt the discussion that surrounds these issues toward prevention and deterrence of abusive behavior.|
Based in the idea that those affected by injustice are their own most effective advocates and that the arts offer a unique opportunity to amplify the voices of those that typically go unheard, The Lavinia Project seeks to provide a forum in which survivors of domestic and sexual violence can share their stories through writing and other mediums in order to raise awareness and affect social change.
The group holds bi-weekly meetings and workshop sessions, culminating in an annual publication and event featuring the works of members. For questions or more info, contact us.
The ultimate goal or mission of the Lavinia Project is to use writing and the arts to humanize and legitimize the experiences of survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and thus begin to tilt the discussion that surrounds these issues toward prevention and deterrence of abusive behavior.
