The Mel Bornstein Clinic is made possible through a generous gift from Mel and Audrey Bornstein and by subsequent donations from friends and members of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute and Society. We have also received a grant from the American Psychoanalytic Association Foundation. We have raised sufficient funds to begin the necessary steps to establish the MBCPP as a full-functioning, free-standing Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic (OPC).
“For over forty years, the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute has provided reduced-fee psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in Farmington Hills and Ann Arbor” according to Aisha Abbasi, M.D. Chair of the steering committee overseeing the project. “While we have provided high-quality treatment to many people, we have never, until now, been able to collect reimbursement from insurance companies. Our primary mission is to broaden the base of those we might serve in the community by enabling people to use their insurances to help them underwrite the costs of therapy.”
The Mel Bornstein Clinic is scheduled to receive the accreditation of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) mid-October, which will meet the requirements for reimbursement from most insurance companies, including eventually Medicare and Medicaid. For those without insurance, we will continue to work out a reduced-fee arrangement, as has been the practice when directly affiliated with Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute.
The therapists will be supervised by members of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, assuring high quality oversight, guidance, and instruction in clinical work.
