|About||A community of interdisciplinary artists based in London. We train actors, develop writers and deliver corporate communication training.|
The salon:story began in Spring 2010 when 10 artists (filmmaker, writer, actor, teacher, yoga practitioner, director, among others) met in a theatre bar looking for ways to support each other. They each expressed feelings of isolation and of being ‘stuck in their garret’, unable to make their vision real. The idea of a salon as a supportive environment for sharing, developing and discussing work was adopted and this blossomed into the salon:collective as it is today.
Our community of artists makes the collective more than the sum of its parts, inspired by the tradition of pioneering collective companies such as Moscow Art Theatre, the Group Theatre and Atlantic Theatre Company. All of these developed dynamic artistic practice and provided an environment in which actors, writers and directors could create fresh, bold, relevant new work.
There are many ways to be part of the salon:story. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.
the salon:collective is a community of interdisciplinary artists based in London. We train actors, develop writers and deliver corporate communication training. We create and collaborate on events and productions while offering a supportive, energising climate for artists making their own work.
We don't have a permanent base but can often be found at the Cockpit Theatre where we run most of our training. You'll find details of all our courses at www.thecockpit.org.uk
Our courses for actors are taught by our expert associates who build skills and practice together, ensuring that the techniques we offer are constantly evolving. We draw on the expertise of world-leading practitioners, refining and expanding our practice to enrich the entire salon community.
The ethos of our training is influenced by the Meisner technique of acting. Each tutor has a fully grounded knowledge of the technique, in addition to their own specialism: physical theatre, Shakespeare and classical text, vocal technique and accents, acting for screen.
We know that the skills we offer to creative artists are equally valuable in the business world and have proven success in delivering communications training to individuals and businesses.
