Turvey Paralegal: following many years of advocacy in Labour Relations, Human Rights, and Employment Standards, Michael Turvey was licensed as a Paralegal by the Law Society of Upper Canada.
The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates both Lawyers and Paralegals requiring them both to be licensed, insured, and to follow strict ethical standards in order to provide legal services to the public.
Paralegals, in Ontario, can advise and represent in many legal matters. They cannot practice in Family Law, Real Estate, Wills & Estates, or Corporate Law.
Paralegals can practice in Provincial Offences court dealing with Highway Traffic violations; Bylaw Offences; Liquor and Tobacco issues; and MTO violations. Paralegals can act in Landlord Tenant Board and other Tribunal matters. Paralegals can assist in Small Claims matters up to $25,000. Paralegals can help in Criminal Court if the potential penalty to the charge is less than 6 months in jail or the fine is less than $5,000.
