|About||UAW Local 4121 is the Union of 4,500 Academic Student Employees (ASEs) – Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Staff Assistants, Readers/Graders, Tutors, and Fellows and Trainees doing similar work – at the University of Washington.|
|Mission||In addition to negotiating and enforcing important workplace improvements for ASEs at UW, UAW Local 4121 members fight for social and economic justice on campus and in the community through participation in a broad range of organizations and struggles.|
Our work as ASEs is critical to UW’s ability to provide accessible, quality education to tens of thousands of students each year and to maintain its world-renowned, cutting-edge research programs.
This year we’re again mobilizing for a fair contract with UW. We’ve been caught between two damaging trends in higher education: declining state support, and increasing tuition/fees. The University’s ability to maintain quality in teaching, research and service suffers, as it becomes less competitive in attracting the best and brightest to carry out this critical work.
Help our efforts to raise awareness of our issues by following us here, and taking part in actions that connect our efforts with broader struggles to invest in workers, protect collective bargaining, and preserve quality and access in higher education. Learn more at www.uaw4121.org.
