Description Message from the Dean:

Welcome to the College of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Montana. As the flagship university for the arts in our state, we offer both liberal arts and professional accredited degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. Comprised of the Schools of Art, Media Arts, Music and Theatre & Dance, we are home to the Montana Repertory Theatre, the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival and the Gallery of Visual Arts.

The arts play a unique role in our human conversation. The arts teach us how to listen, how to hone our powers of observation, how to work together, how to account for time and space, and how to make critical choices based on historical context, practical experience, and the interpretation of ideas. The arts teach us to interact with texts and materials, with our bodies, our emotions, with nature, with the familiar and the unknown, and most significantly, with each other.

I invite you to experience and explore all the creative possibilities that emanate from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Montana. You will emerge transformed both as a person and an artist.
