Urban Law Center cover
Mission The Fordham Urban Law Center is committed to understanding and affecting the role of law and legal systems in urban environments. Law is central to almost every aspect of the life of 21st-century cities, influencing critical issues as diverse as the structure of local governance, the regulation of the built environment, and service delivery in the urban context. In turn, the complexity, density and diversity of urban life shape the law. The Center is interdisciplinary, partnership-driven, and supports comparative analysis with real-time relevance.
Description Founded in 2012, the Urban Law Center at Fordham Law School seeks to investigate and affect the role of the law and legal systems in contemporary urbanism. It promotes an interdisciplinary understanding of the legal, governance and regulatory aspects of urban environments by advancing collaborative research and scholarship, organizing local and global convening, and supporting knowledge sharing, career pathways and pedagogy in the world of urban law. As of 2014, the Center’s efforts focus on those forces that shape urban inequality and urban governance and innovation, with the goal of actively targeting the most pressing issues facing metropolitan areas.
