About the Language Commons:
The Language Commons fosters the learning, teaching, and use of world languages at UVA, in and beyond the language classroom. As a component of A&S Learning Design and Technology, the work of the Language Commons draws on the principles of Intentionality, Authenticity, and Engagement in supporting effective language learning and instruction on Grounds.
Language Commons spaces on grounds:
The Language Commons (opening 2017): An open-floorplan space for collaboration, events, study, and more. The Commons is equipped with computer work stations, white boards, monitors, and flexible seating options for group and individual work. The space will also regularly host events and speakers. Contact us to discuss use of this space for a UVa world language/culture event.
The Language Lab:
The A&S Language Lab opened in July of 2016. There are 24 student computers connected to a central teacher station to support language class activities and assessments. The lab is available for reservation by all language instructors. Open for student use when not reserved.
The LC Alcove (opening 2017)
A group workspace designed for collaboration, equipped with glassboards, monitors, and flexible seating options. The Alcove currently hosts the ePortfolio Peer Consultant program.
The One-Button Studio (opening Spring 2017)
An easy-to-use video recording studio for faculty and student use. Reservations required.
