|About||Stay in a comfortable old house within a few minutes walk from king, gentoo and magellanic penguins. Room to sleep up to 4 guests.|
Volunteer's is a privately owned farm on East Falkland Islands. The only way to reach there is by 4x4. The journey takes about 2.5 hours from Stanley. The first 35 miles is on gravel road and the last 14 is all off road.
Volunteer's house is used by the wardens, Derek and Trudi Pettersson as their home for 7 months of the year and during this time they allow guests to spend time with them. There are 2 rooms and they can accommodate up to 4 people. Full-board is provided.
We have the largest king penguin colony in the Falklands with around 3000 penguins now. There are also several thousand gentoo and magellanic penguins. All are within a few minutes walk of the house. The odd sea lion or fur seal may be seen some days and there are a large number of small birds such as long-tailed meadow lark, Falkland thrush, two banded plover, Rufous-chested Dotterel and white-rumped sandpiper.
Last season Volunteer Point was awarded "Visitor Experience Of The Year" award from the Falkland Islands Tourist Board.
