The mission of the Whitewater Arts Alliance, Inc. is to promote the visual and performing arts through an alliance of artists, individuals, educational resources, and organizations to promote creativity and diversity that will serve to educate and enrich the lives of the residents of the Whitewater community and surrounding areas. All are invited to become members, whether they are artists or art-enthusiasts.
The Whitewater Arts Alliance, a purely volunteer organization, received its first donation in December 2004. Since that time, the Alliance has been involved in many projects designed to help increase awareness of and interest in the arts in the area. The Alliance sponsored the creation of The Prairie Tiller Mural, and also organized and sponsored the development of the arch at Cravath Lake that depicts the historic scenes and structures of Whitewater, fabricated from steel. Each year, the Alliance sponsors a Public Art Project on Main Street Light Poles that features art by children, students, families, trained artists and others.
With the opening of the Cultural Arts Center in the renovated White Memorial Building on 402 West Main Street, the Alliance has had a location to host a variety of exhibits, workshops, events and performances. Included were: the Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP); the Wisconsin Folk Art-Miracles of the Spirit exhibit; the Fran Achen Photography Contest; the Quilt Exhibit; art and performances by students from the Whitewater School District; University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Theatre/Dance performances of Love Letters and Dear Liar; and the new summer community music performances known as Savory Sounds.
Volunteers are essential to each and every event, exhibit, performance and workshop. Anyone interested in helping to bring the arts to life in Whitewater, set up the public art projects, spend time as docents at the Cultural Arts Center, or help in any way can contact the Alliance by calling 262-472-0204.
