FIRST IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE: WITCHAM HITS TARGET
The small village of Witcham may be internationally renowned for its annual Pea Shooting World Championships but now it has something else to be proud of; its Village Hall has hit all the targets to be the first community building in Cambridgeshire to achieve Level 1 of the HALLMARK* quality standard. The HALLMARK* scheme, launched in Cambridgeshire in 2007 through Cambridgeshire ACRE, assesses village hall management, looking to reward, establish and share examples of best practice. The assessment is carried out by visitors from other village hall committees in Cambridgeshire. HALLMARK* is recognised by the Charity Commission as a quality achievement for Community Buildings and Village Halls. There are three levels of achievement. At Level 1 the HALL MARK* standard looks at how well the hall complies with the requirements of its charitable status. As one of the smallest parishes in East Cambridgeshire this achievement represents a true community effort. The support of the village for their hall, and the role it plays in community life contributed to Witcham’s success in achieving the first level of this nationally recognised award.
