An association of 80 member Churches in 132 countries representing over 80 million people in the Methodist, Wesleyan and United/Uniting Church traditions.
To promote obedience to the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ to love God and neighbor and to fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples through vibrant evangelism, a prophetic voice, cooperative programs, faithful worship, and mutual learning.
The World Methodist Council engages, empowers and serves the member Churches by encouraging Methodist unity in witness, facilitating mission in the world, and fostering ecumenical and inter-religious activities. The Council is composed of 500 representatives from member churches elected for a five year term commencing with the World Methodist Conference. The most recent World Methodist Conference was held in Durban, South Africa in August 2011 with the theme "Jesus Christ for the Healing of the Nations".
The current General Secretary is Bishop Ivan Abrahams (South Africa) and the President is Bishop Paulo Lockmann (Brazil).
