Creating a safe and humane environment for people, pets and wildlife through education and trapping regulation reform.
Wyoming Untrapped launched as a facebook page on Oct 1, 2012 in response to increased trapping on public and private lands once federal protections of the gray wolf were removed. A growing number of pets and other “non target” animals were getting caught in what appeared to be an increasing number of traps.
Trapping regulations in Wyoming allow leghold traps with a 72 hour trap check, snare and conibear traps allowing up to 13 day trap checks. As a consequence, captured wolves and other wildlife suffer for hours and even days before being killed. Trap sizes are unlimited. Predator trapping does not require a license, and allows a trapper an unlimited number of traps. Pet trapping incidents as well as all other non-target incidents are not recorded by Wyoming Game& Fish Dept. Wolves and other predators can be trapped every single day of the year in over 85% of the state. It’s time for change.
The goal of Wyoming Untrapped is to create a safe and humane environment for people, pets and wildlife through education and by working with federal and state officials to reform trapping regulations.
We received our 501(c)3 status as a non-profit organization May 2014, consisting of several volunteers who have been working with us throughout the year. We have launched a new website, wyominguntrapped.org.
As a facebook podium for Wyoming voices, as well as those of our friends nationwide and around the world, we hope that you will continue to share your voice for the challenges ahead as we take the road less traveled. When wildlife wins, humanitiy wins as well.
